KEY QUESTIONS

Image of Citi Bike stations in New York City

RESULTS

  • Citi Bike's busiest days are Monday and Friday

  • Citi Bike's least busy days are Saturday and Sunday

  • The busiest hour of the day is 5:00 PM with the second busiest around 9:00 AM

Age and Citi Bike

  • Most riders are born in the 1980s

  • The trip duration slightly decreases as the rider becomes younger but not very significant

  • Younger people tend to ride Citi Bike on the weekend

  • Younger people also tend to ride during the later and early morning hours of the day

Station Activity

  • The creation of our interactive maps in Tableau showcases which stations were the most used and most unused from a start station and end station perspective

  • This can help us identify needs and wants based on usage and perhaps make adjustments if big NYC events take place

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Target the work commute type of client to get them to ride outside of working hours. Something like an incentive if you ride 6 days a week you get 10% off. Or if you increase the total weekly ride time over a certain mark you get a free ride

  • Make incentives for rides on the weekend. Increasing riders can increase revenue. This area has the least volume but the longest rides.

  • Make sure there are adequate bikes staged at the busy stations and not too many unused bikes at the least busy stations
